Everyday life

Life for us  pretty simple :). He has started to sleep really well. Last night he slept from 10 pm to 4 am! I'll take that any day of the week! He usually wakes up around 5 or so and then lays in bed with either Jon and I.  Jon leaves for work around 7:30 and then the day is ours! Our day is usually spent running errands or visiting dad at work. We haven't been doing that as much as I used to before he was born because I would hate to be a bother. Afternoons are usually spent snuggling which I especially love! Grady is such a wonderful snuggler :). When Jon gets home that is his time to spend with the little man...that's when he gets his time to snuggle with G Man.

This weather has been soo incredibly amazing the past week! Jon, Grady and I have started to go out for walks at the end of the night. We have really nice trails out by our house so we are trying to take advantage of those too. I am trying to enjoy my time this week with the little man. I got offered an internship with BCI Burke (which is similar to Landscape Structures) and start Monday the 26th. It is only three days a week from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. It isn't a paid internship but I am hoping for them to hire me on at the end of the 6 weeks. Jon is still enjoying his job. He really likes the people that he works with.

I will be sure to update as often as possible and post pictures too. I can't believe that Grady will already be 6 weeks old and those pictures are so important!

The first few weeks

Discharge day came and we couldn't wait to get Grady home. I was so ready to be in my own environment with my own surroundings again. The pediatrician was concerned with jaundice, so he ordered a blood test but that came back at an okay level. Thank heaven!

When the time came for Jon and I to bring the little nugget home, we we nervous to say the least! All I could think was, "They're going to let us take him home?!" It was a rough night of crying (for Grady and myself), but we made it through. Jon went into work a little late, considering the little man didn't actually go to sleep until about 6 am. Ever since then, he has gotten progressively better.

We are so blessed to have such a good sleeper! He has his moments and so do I, but I would not take back a single moment that I get to spend with him. He especially loves to snuggle which I am definitely in love with! He is an early riser so he snuggles with me for a little bit until he goes back to sleep.

We had a bout of thrush in the second week. It wasn't so terrible for me, but Grady was so uncomfortable. He was spitting up more often and had really bad gas but we got some medication from it and he is getting over finally! I hated to seem him so uncomfortable but he is one tough little cookie!

I have never really heard of anyone saying that labor and delievery was a good or enjoyable experience for them, but it truly was for me. If I had to go back and do it again, I would do it in a heartbeat for the little blessing that Jon and I received. Jon was such a good support and an excellent coach for me during the whole process. He never waivered and still three weeks later, is telling me what a wonderful job I am doing. He is a pretty good papa himself. Grady has already acquired the nickname, "Boss", which I find to be very suiting considering he runs the household now!

Delivery Day!

Well, the due date came and went.  So did a few more days, and then Chels "pretended" that her water broke, unfortunately it hadn't.  Chels was getting quite antsy to say the least for the little guy to make his debut.  We had our last appointment on Friday and Dr. McCullough said that she would induce her on Monday if we didn't have any action over the weekend.  We were really hoping that she would be far enough along that she would break her water when we went in, but no such luck!  We were a little disappointed, but at least we knew there was an end in sight.

Around 7-7:30pm on Saturday Chels started to have more regular contractions and was getting pretty uncomfortable.  After a few hours and a couple phone calls back and forth with the hospital, we decided that it was time to head to head in around 12:15am on Sunday.  We got the car loaded up and made the long 3 mile drive to the hospital.

As we were walking into the hospital Chels says "I am not leaving without a baby in my arms this time," since we were now 7 days into overtime.   We got checked in and Chels was examined by one of the nurses and the doctor that was on call determined that she was far enough along that she would admit her to stay!  After getting hooked up to all of the monitors and IV's they gave her a little medicine in her IV to take the edge off her contractions.

About an hour or so after letting the medicine work, the anethesiologist came in to start an epidural.  He was super nice guy, and was weirdly in love with me (Jon) and my athletic background.   Before he started with the needles the nurse pulled out a chair for me incase I got light headed.  I pretty much laughed it off after watching doctors put big needles in my shoulder and elbow for surgeries of my own.

Well about 3 min after he's working on prepping Chels, I start to get this light headed feeling and start getting cold sweats.  I try to be sneaky and go and sit in the chair without 1. passing out before hand, and 2. no one realizing that I was about to pass out.   Didn't work, the nurse caught me red handed and started laughing, and said "I told you so!"

After getting the epidural, Chels finally is able to relax and get a couple hours of sleep.  Around 7:30 the nurse comes in to check her and says that she was 8cm dilated!  We couldn't believe how fast she had progressed since we fell asleep.  After about an hour of watching Friends on tv they decided it was time to get the little nugget outta there!

9:34am and an hour after Chels did an amazing job pushing, we finally welcomed Grady Thomas Bjelland into our lives.  The little guy weighed in at 8lbs 8 oz, and was 21 inches long.  We both have never been so happy in our lives, it was an amazing feeling!
